Quality Materials in Perfect Portions
Soviero’s Garden Center stocks the bagged and baled materials that save your back and your sanity. Whether you need a few bags of topsoil for weekend container projects or bales of pine straw to tackle your entire landscape, we carry quality materials that actually work—not the cheap stuff that disappoints when you get it home to your garden.
North Carolina Brands That Get Our Soil
We’re big on supporting North Carolina producers because they understand what it takes to grow things in our clay and crazy weather. These aren’t just local products—they’re better products because they’re made for gardeners dealing with the same challenges you face every day.
Bagged Soil That Doesn’t Disappoint:
Ever bought cheap bagged soil that turned into concrete after the first rain? Yeah, we’ve all been there. Here’s what we stock because it actually helps plants instead of hurting them:
- Daddy Pete’s North Carolina-made mixes – Their cow manure, potting mixes, and soil amendments work in real Triad gardens, not just test plots. Folks keep coming back for Daddy Pete’s because it delivers results.
- Fox Farm premium blends—Ocean Forest and Happy Frog formulations that container gardeners swear by for vegetables and specialty plants.
- Coast of Maine premium organic blends—These Maine-made mixes use marine ingredients like lobster shell and kelp that most companies don’t bother with. Folks keep coming back because Coast of Maine delivers results that justify the higher price.
- Pine bark and nuggets—natural mulches that actually suppress weeds instead of just looking pretty for a month.
- Bagged lime and fertilizers—convenient sizes when you don’t need a dump truck full.
As Kelly R. mentioned in her review, “They have food for my chickens and lots of organic fertilizers and soils. Several different types of gravel, mulch, and dirt. Prices were reasonable, and the people were helpful.”
We don’t stock every product that exists—just the ones that we know work in Triad gardens. Our staff uses these products in their yards and can tell you what delivers results versus what just sounds good on the label.
Whether you’re tackling your first container garden or you’re an experienced landscaper facing a big project, we can point you toward the right bags and bales that make sense for your specific needs and budget. No need to buy more than you can use or settle for materials that won’t deliver results.
Visit Soviero’s Garden Center to check out our bags and bales selection, or call us at (336) 885-3800 to see what’s fresh and in stock. We’ll help you figure out exactly what you need without buying more than you can use!

More Bagged Soil Amendments:
We also stock Butterfield Farms pine bark products—nuggets, mini nuggets, and shredded pine bark mulch in 3 cubic foot bags—plus their basic potting soil. For other soil amendments, we carry vermiculite and perlite in various sizes (4 cubic feet and 9 quart bags), coarse perlite in 4 cubic feet, and sand in 1 cubic foot bags. These are the building blocks for custom soil mixes when you need specific drainage or moisture retention instead of one-size-fits-all potting soil.
Pine Straw Bales: Carolina's Classic Mulch
Pine straw isn’t just popular here because we’ve got pine trees everywhere—it’s popular because it works better than most alternatives:
- Weed control that breathes – Stops weeds but lets water through, unlike that plastic sheeting stuff
- Stays put – Won’t blow into your neighbor’s yard or wash away in thunderstorms
- Easy to spread – No wrestling with heavy, wet mulch that’s been sitting in the rain
- Natural look – Belongs in Carolina landscapes because it comes from Carolina forests
- Long-lasting coverage – One application lasts way longer than you’d expect
Our pine straw comes fresh from sustainable sources, not dried out from sitting in warehouses. The difference shows when you’re spreading it and when you’re still enjoying it months later.
Why Bags and Bales Beat Bulk (Sometimes):
Look, bulk materials are great when you need mountains of stuff. But bags and bales make sense when you want convenience, quality control, and the ability to store extras without a tarp-covered pile in your driveway. Plus, you can actually fit this stuff in your car without borrowing your brother-in-law’s truck.
