Common Garden Center Questions

Stuff People Often Ask

Whether you’re planning your first visit to our High Point garden center or you’ve been coming here for years, we know folks have questions about how we operate. From our seasonal hours and delivery services throughout Guilford, Forsyth, and Davidson counties to what bulk materials, plants, and pet supplies we carry, we’ve put together answers to the questions we hear most often about our garden center operations. As a family-owned garden center serving the Triad area since 1989, we’ve learned what High Point gardeners and landscapers want to know before they make the trip out to see us.

Do you deliver bulk materials?

You bet! We deliver all around High Point and nearby areas! Our delivery service covers bulk mulch, soil, and gravel with fees starting at $55 within 10 miles of our shop. Need a Bobcat delivery? We offer that too for $120. If you’re a bit farther out, we add just $8 for every additional 5 miles. Give us a call, and we’ll be happy to provide a specific estimate for your location.

We carry a full range of bulk materials including various mulches, topsoils, compost, gravels, and decorative stones. Materials are typically sold by the cubic yard, though some items may be sold by the scoop or ton. Since prices can vary seasonally and by material type, it’s best to call us at (336) 885-3800 for current pricing and to discuss the best options for your project.

A bunch of our plants are grown right here in our own greenhouses. That means they already know our weird NC weather, haven’t been stressed sitting on trucks forever, and are just plain healthier from the start. Plus, everyone working here actually gets their hands dirty in their own gardens – we can give you real-world advice, not just read off those little plastic tags

We carry a comprehensive selection of feeds for various animals. For cats and dogs, we stock Taste of the Wild, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Diamond Naturals, and Diamond brands. For livestock, we have everything from chicken scratch and laying pellets to horse feed, goat pellets, rabbit pellets, and even alpaca feed. We also carry bird seed, deer corn, and salt/mineral blocks. If you don’t see what you need, just ask—we can often special order it.

We change things up with the seasons since our customers’ garden needs shift throughout the year. Spring and fall (March-June, Sept-Oct) we’re open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and Sunday 1pm-5pm. During summer and winter (July-August, Nov-Feb), we’re here Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm, but closed on Sundays. Always best to give us a quick call if you’re coming from far away!

Absolutely! Soverio’s Garden Center gift cards make perfect presents for the green thumbs in your life (or folks just getting started). They’re available in any amount, never expire, and can be used on everything from plants to pottery. Just ask at the register next time you’re in.

Great question — and it’s one worth asking, because scoop sizes can vary quite a bit from one company to the next depending on the equipment they use. At Soviero’s, our scoop is ¾ of a cubic yard, which covers approximately 100 square feet at a 2-inch depth. That’s a solid amount of material for most residential projects, but if you’re not sure how many scoops you’ll need for your job, just give us a call. We’re happy to help you figure it out before you order.

What types of plants do you grow in your own green houses?

We grow a variety of plants in our hot houses that are perfectly adapted to North Carolina’s growing conditions. This includes many of our annuals, perennials,  and specialty plants. Also, we grow our vegetable seedlings each year for our begetable gardeners.  Growing our own ensures you get healthy, vigorous plants that are already accustomed to our local climate. It’s one of the things that sets us apart from garden centers that only buy from distant suppliers.

We love answering gardening questions! For over 30 years, we’ve been here to offer input when folks ask us what works best in our area. When you come in with specific questions about soil, plants, or timing, we’ll share what we’ve seen work well in High Point and the surrounding counties. We’ll give you our honest opinion on what thrives here and what doesn’t, based on our experience. No question is too basic – whether you’re wondering about a particular plant or asking what grows well in your yard’s conditions, we’re happy to share what we know works.

Yes! We have one of the largest selections of organic solutions in the area. Whether you’re looking for organic fertilizers, natural pest control options, or chemical-free soil amendments, we’ve got you covered. We believe in sustainable gardening that works in harmony with nature, and our staff can guide you toward the best organic options for your specific needs.

Depends on what you’re after! For summer vegetable plants like tomatoes and peppers, wait until after our last frost (usually mid-April or so). Spring flowers can go in earlier.
Fall’s actually perfect for trees and shrubs – they get their roots established before summer heat hits. Stop by and we’ll give you the scoop on whatever you’re looking to grow.

Our organic options are OMRI-listed (that’s the Organic Materials Review Institute), meaning they’re approved for organic gardening. They typically work with natural processes and beneficial organisms. Conventional products often work faster but might affect beneficial insects too. It comes down to your gardening philosophy – we carry both, so you can make your own choice. Either way, we only stock quality products that work in the Triad climate.

We will certainly try to! Plant diagnosis isn’t as easy as it looks sometimes. But, if you can bring in samples of affected plants or photos of the affe, we will do all we can to help. We have seen just about everything over the years and can usually identify issues like pest problems, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies. We can also recommend the best treatment approach for your specific situation.
